This was a large hut built in 1969 by carpenter, Cliff Peart, & Brian Conroy, after short-comings were discovered at 'Stormwater Hut (Bonar Flats Hut No. 1)', on the true right of the Waitoto River. The ‘Log Cabin (Bonar Flats Hut No. 2)’ & its associated airstrip, unfortunately succumbed to a massive flood in 1981 when the valley head-wall fell off Mt Stargazer into the glacial lake, sending a wall of water downstream.Location:
