It has 6 bunks and the category of Backcountry Hut.Erected in 1945 by the Tararua Tramping Club & opened on 9 March, 1946, following the dismantling of Cone Saddle Hut. It's chimney blew off in November, 1965. Cone Hut is the second oldest hut in the Tararua FP & has historic designation. It was built using the rare technique of adzing Totara timber into framing & splitting it into slab walls. It was restored in the 1980. Bit smelly, but awesome spot, really enjoy it this spot.

Could only spot 5 mattresses inside. In good nick otherwise, although I'd recommend drinking from the river.
