It has 8 bunks and the category of Backcountry Hut.The first of three Dart Huts to be built in the vicinity. This was a NZAC hut built single-handedly by mountain guide, Kurt Suter in 1937. Material for the hut was carried by packhorse from Paradise. It was also known as 'Snowy Creek Hut' (due to its location). It was replaced by a Lands & Survey Board hut (Dart Hut No. 2), which in turn was replaced by Dart Hut No. 3, although both No. 2 & No. 3 co-existed for a while.
