Notes
A NZFS 4-bunk, S81 design, built in 1968. It originally had a wood burner in a chimney alcove, which was removed by DOC in the 1990's. A roof-fed water tank was added around 2004. A photocopy of the original hutbook which dates from 1969 to 2007, has been left in the hut & makes for a fascinating read. In October, 2022, Permolat volunteers installed 4 anchor piles, securely fixed the piles to the bearers, replaced the tie downs & wall-mounted points, replaced the windows & roof, & repainted the hut. I remember when this hut still had a wood stove and got caught out expecting it to be there for heating and cooking one trip and on arrival found the stove removed. It's a cold place without a stove when there is snow about!
