Built in March, 1961, by NZFS, led by ranger Chris Main. Others included were Brian Diver, John Fischer & the Hawkins brothers. It is a S70 6-bunk design which originally had an open fire. John McCann (NZFS) reports it was a particularly hard job due to the weather & it took 3 goes to finally get it finished. John reports it was originally called 'Pukemoremore Hut' as there was some confusion with Dundas, as some of the early maps had wrong names on the peaks. The open fire was removed & replaced with a woodburner, which in turn has been removed. Edit Hut
Tops travel is slow for me, the incessant biting Westerly didn't help. But this is a nice traditional NZFS hut which was welcoming and great to find after a long day.
