Built over 5 months in 1924 by Gibb & Fisk for the Tararua Tramping Club (TTC) at a cost of £430. £130 was donated by W. H. Field (Willie) who was President of the TTC & a Member of Parliament for Otaki at the time, & whom the hut is named after. It was opened on 27 October in the presence of 20 interested folks. The hut foundations & framing were built with pit-sawn timber from trees felled nearby, & the rest of the materials were hauled in by pack-horse. Repiled & extensively upgraded by DOC in Jan., & Feb., 2003, with new windows, deck, porch & toilet. Edit Hut
