It has 4 bunks and the category of Standard Hut.The first of three Holly Huts to have been built in the vicinity. Some reports suggest John Dickie built it in 1900, but it was more likely built it March, 1908, after the Okato Track had been cut in February, 1908, with the first load of hut materials taken up by horse during the third week of February. The hut measured 16 x 12 feet, with the timber sawn locally from suitable totara. It appears that Okey & Son, & the Sash & Door provided the materials, P. Julian & R. Roebuck the cartage, & L. Earp, F. G. Morriss, & H. Pearson, the labour. The Egmont National Park Board accounts show the hut was built for only 22 pounds 19s, well under the allocated 25 pound budget. It was renovated in late 1928, further repairs completed in 1930, & it was upgraded in 1936 & 1937, although another reports suggests Norman Gibson (Park Ranger) replaced it with a 4-bunk hut in 1936.Location:
