It was built in the 1940's by a Mr Henderson & a culling friend. It collapsed & a comfortable temporary bivvy with an open fireplace was built to replace it. The bivvy, in turn was replaced by the current NZFS-built structure. 'Lake Hut' was located adjacent to the current hut. This hut was known as the old "Lake Hut". It collapsed and a comfortable temporary bivvy with an open fireplace was was built to replace it. Next came the current NZFS built Lake Christabel Hut. (My info from Don Cowlin, hunter & later Field Officer, for the North Westland deer culling blocks)
