This is a 'Great Walks' hut & it was built in 1974. This is the third of three Mangatepopo Huts in the vicinity. The first hut was built in 1918. The second was built circa 1927, lasting until 1979 when it was demolished. Due to on-going vandalism at the second hut, the car park was moved back to where it is currently. Edit Hut
