Built in 1983 by the NZFS to replace an older hut. Refer to 'Pinchgut Hut (old)'. Summer 2023-24, saw the windows & wood burner replaced, & the hut fully painted. Edit Hut

The hut is nice and tidy. There are many good camping spots around, but prepare for a sandfly invasion. Water is taken from the stream next to the hut. If you feel a bit adventurous, go and explore an old track that ventures to Whare Stream from the saddle in the immediate proximity of pt552. Cattle Peak Route is not mantained so it's a bit overgrown but easy to follow
