Notes
The four of five 'Pioneer' structures but third hut. The first Pioneer structure, (Pioneer Biv) built in 1933/34 was a corrugated iron biv which was replaced by the first hut (second Pioneer structure) which only lasted for ten years (1953 to 1963) before being stuck by a rockfall. The second hut (third Pioneer structure) was constructed by volunteers between 1963 - 1966 & remained in use until April, 1983 when it was intentionally burnt down. 1984 saw the building of this the third hut (fourth Pioneer structure) in a collborative project between NZAC & the Dept. of Lands & Survey, led by Alex Miller. The hut, nick-named 'The Fridge', due to its 'freezer storeroom' like construction remained in use until replaced in 1999. Edit Hut
