Built in 1916 by Rodolph Wigley for the NZ Tourist Bureau. It was maintained by NZFS carpenters in 1977 to a high standard. Prior to this, the hut was almost at a stage of being unusable. The hut had two open fires but both have been removed & one wood burner has been installed. Around 2007, DOC restored the hut back to its original state. Edit Hut
