Serpentine River Road fords will need a higher clearance vehicle than a Subaru Legacy… there is also a sign on the road 800m before the hut that reads “no unauthorised entry — 24/7 surveillance”, at which point I turned around

Still in good shape, there is a hole in the roof though. The door would need repainting and some form of glass or material for the windows.

Not to fear fellow trampers the Waimea College Tramping Club will begin maintenance soon. We'll be adding new windows, floor boards, shelving, and a new bolt for the door. we'll also be cutting and marking the track so it's easier for future trampers to access the hut more efficiently. If you have any further suggestions, please contact ether me or Jayarn-Sheridan.

Partially cut an unmarked route to it in November, 2022 but would probably be gone in most places now. I plan to go up and recut and mark the track in the near future.

Hut is now completely surrounded by large Chamaecyparis and gorse. No track exists anymore and it is a mission to get to the door. You'll be picking gorse out of your hair for hours afterwards.

Not much of a "cut track" and you are moving through ancient dried gorse. It is an old suburban garage construction on tanalised pine piles with the chipboard floor rotting out in places. The heart rimu framing, pine roof trusses and galvanised steel weatherboards date it to the early 1970s.
