The Levin Waiopehu Tramping Club built the hut & it was officially opened on 18 April, 1948, in front of 45 people. It was damaged in Feb., 2003 after an earthquake caused a bank behind the hut to slip & collapse. DOC removed the hut on 13 March, 2003. All that remains is a concrete slab. It once had an open fire which was later replaced by a wood burner. Edit Hut
