It had 2 rooms, one for the men, the other for the women. The fireplace had a riverstone hearth. It was demolished in 1961 as a result of the valley being taken over for the construction of the Upper Mangatawhiri water reservoir. It was made of corrugated iron & had boulders for the chimney. Te Hapua reportedly meant 'sheltered hollow in the hills', or 'the dell'.Location:
