This, the second hut was originally located on a lower river terrace but in 1991 it was relocated by the NZ Army to the higher river terrace (site of the first hut) 30 metres away. DOC painted and resealed it and did some basic maintenance in 2004 and revisited in 2012 to rebuild the woodshed. The hut is maintained & was painted by Permolat volunteers in Feb. 2018.
