The original biv [see 'Veil Bivouac (old)'] was built in 1964 & removed by DOC in November, 2012, as the river eroded the bank to within 2 metres. New foundations were laid by volunteers in March, 2016, on a high terrace across the river from the old site. The refurbished biv was reinstated by volunteers in December, 2017.
