It has 10 bunks and the category of Backcountry Hut.Known by two names as above. It was originally an old 6-bunk musterers' hut (see photo) with an open fire. The 1980's saw a 'trampers' side with 4 bunks & a wood stove added-on as an ‘enclosed’ lean-to, making a total of 10 bunks. The concrete pad for the trampers 'lean-to' is visible beside the hut. Members of the Rakaia NZDA , locals & the now defunct Ashburton MSC, led by Dave Howden, built the extension. Both the original hut & trampers 'lean-to' were removed in 2006, when the new 'Woolshed Creek Hut' was built. The original musterers half-of-the-hut is on display in Mt Somers Domain.Location:

So many trips here. Stayed in both sides of the hut and camped outside.
