It has 11 bunks and the category of Private Hut.Built by the Xavier College Outdoor Club in 1970, following a fatal hunting accident involving students. It is now owned by ‘Grasslands’ (an American farming entity) who own several Lees Valley stations, & who are renovating the hut. The then Mt Pember Station owner, Maurice Harper, intended for the hut to be built across the creek in the sunshine, but strong winds resulted in it being built in the trees, opposite the proposed site. The A-frame trusses were pre-cut in the Xavier College pool area & McKendry's provided the fire place & chimney. Everything was transported to Mt Pember by Ryan Brother's. Maurice Harper loaned his tractor & trailer, & everything was slowly ferried up valley to the site. Permission to visit is required.Location:

A group of Xavier college students drowned in the Townshend River in the 60's. Then a poled route was created so people could avoid having to cross the river at the bluff.
