Built in 1959 by the Hawkes Bay Deerstalkers who were building Makino Hut an hour further along the ridge. It was built for those members who, at the time, were cutting the track into the area. Thrashed by gales & driving rain for 30 years. Not much more than sheets of tin propped up by lengths of wood. A haven from the winter storms that swept the ridges bare of all but the most hardy souls who dared to venture there. Photo with dog: Sika. Edit Hut
