Built by the NZFS in 1959 on a site felled by Laurie Dahm. In the early 1980’s, the Lands & Survey Dept, added a woodshed, covered porch & lined the interior. In 2004, DOC repainted it. 2012, saw it repainted, the clearlite replaced & a woodburner, replace the open fire. 2023, saw DOC upgrade the helipad & replace some of the piles & lead-head nails with screws. Early May, 2024, saw DOC HOK overhaul the rest of the subfloor & replace sections of the leaky roof. It is commonly thought Boo Boo was named due to a misplaced air-drop. Jock Fisher reports Boo Boo Creek was named long before the hut, adding "when we first used the camp a large enough clearing couldn’t be found, so the air drop (by Popeye Lucas & Tex Smith, in Austers), was on a large slip below camp & the stores carried up”.
