Notes
This was the third of three huts named 'Lewis' in the vicinity. This hut was built in 1965 & had been extensively refurbished since, with the addition of a covered verandah & relocating of the main door. The hut replaced the second hut which was reportedly located at a bend up the track. The hut was named after surveyor & explorer, Charles Lewis. The original open fire was replaced by a wood burner at some stage. This was a 'Great Walks' hut but in November, 2021, DOC removed the hut & constructed a shelter in it's place. The roof was repainted in 2008. Edit Hut
