It was originally a wood & canvas deer cullers camp built in 1949. In the 1960's the Pukerua Bay Boy Scouts modified it & used it frequently. By the 1970's it was reportedly a 'real hovel' & it was pulled down by Henry Dorrian (NZFS). Named by Alf Douglas (Field Officer, NZFS) bemoaning the lack of deer, saying 'it would be a bloody miracle if anyone shot a deer there'. Edit Hut
