Notes
Built by the NZFS in 1962 as a standard S70 6-bunk design, it is lined. The hut is also known as 'Little Waitaha', 'Kakapotahi', or 'Happy Valley' hut. DOC painted it around 2004, & in 2010, replaced the toilet & felled some of the regenerating bush around the hut. DOC was going to remove the hut in 2012, but due to operational funding cuts, this was called off & subsequently, the Permolat group has been maintaining it. It was repainted in 2014 & 3 piles were replaced in autumn, 2015, & new mattresses were provided too. A new interior iron fire surround was recently installed by DOC. The BCT is now interested & is hoping to get it on their list for maintenance in the 2025/26 summer. Edit Hut
