Built in 1959 by the Canterbury Mountaineering Club it was named after Australian John Vidulich, & Englishmen, John Young & John Hammond, who disappeared on Mt Cook in 1955. The hut was destroyed on 30 Jan. 1977 when it was blown of Barron Saddle into the Dobson Valley, killing four young people from Wanganui Tramping Club, Jean Fenella Druce (25), Craig W. Benge (25), Robert L. McLean (19) & Hollis.L.D. (Bill) Bennett (19). Fenella Hut in the Upper Cobb Valley, Golden Bay was built as a memorial to Fenella. Edit Hut
