Built by the NZFS in 1972, it was NZFS hut #715. It is named after Trevor Carter, a university student studying forestry, but killed in a motor bike accident. It was on the true left of the Karamea River. It was removed in 2003 & replaced by 'Trevor Carter Hut', albeit on the true right of the Karamea River, on the site of the former 'Luna Hut'. Edit Hut
Today one can 'bag' the old TC Hut on it's retirement plot in Richmond.
Visit the NMIT satellite campus along Lower Queen Street. On the RHS, drive to the back of the campus. Walk to the far end of the next paddock, and look left. You'll see the old hut, fenced into a corner.
