Built in 1968 by the NZFS, it is now maintained by the volunteer group ‘ExNZFS' (ex NZ Forest Service). The usual route to the biv is by ascending a spur from the South Mitre Stream or by descending the spur from Mid King. In late February, 2023, Ex-NZFS chaps, Paul Gush & Dave Jordan, re-clouted & repainted the biv. For further details refer to https://tarhc.org.nz/our-huts/mid-king-bivouac/ Edit Hut
This biv is bit hidden and very damp and smelly but very magic location, especially love that candle holder outside, must be so romantic during night :)
Loveely wee hut. Good camping across creek behind hut. Don't attempt to come down directly from South King, despite Wilderness Magazine having a gpx file. There is a track (steep) off Mid King, then a marked track drops off the spur to the hut. Good track follows the spur down to the valley floor as well.
