Built in late 1967/early 1968 by the NZFS, it is hut #288. It was painted by Permolat volunteers in 2014. In Dec., 2020, builder Colin Morris & 3 other Permolat volunteers replaced all the louvre windows, upgraded the subfloor anchors, installed some wall anchors, replaced some ply wall-lining, painted the interior & exterior, replaced the roof, poured a concrete step & fitted new stainless steel benches & table tops. Easter, 2022, saw Colin Morris, Roger Woods & Col Pearson, install a toilet. This was reputedly the first hut built in the valley, even before any of the tracks were cut, & it was used as a base for deer cullers who used to come over the Lange Range (from the Whitcombe) to access it.
