Notes
Built in 1961 in a joint project by the Wellington Branch of NZDA & NZFS. It was removed in the late 1980's, it was located 1.5km further north along Tarn Ridge from the current hut (built 1993). It was also known as Blatchford Memorial Hut, & named after Basil Blatchford who died & was buried nearby in 1959. He was last seen alive a week earlier heading off alone along the tops in deteriorating weather & he presumably died of hypothermia. Photos: Bill King (orange coloured hut from the 1970s). Simon Johnson 1987, Derrick Field (hut being demolished). Edit Hut
